Huskainability
We’re on the right track!
We’ve decided to do our part, and focus on building a sustainable and responsible business. We’re already seeing the change on our winters and WE cannot just spectate. It’s a long journey, but we can make it, together!
Husky Welfare Comes First
It is of paramount importance to us to take good care of our purebred Siberian Huskies, whose well-being and natural needs have been given special attention. The shelters are spaced out and our park is fenced. In this way, it forms a run for dogs during the snow-free season. In addition, the dogs are offered high-quality raw food, because high-quality food contributes to the maintenance of the dogs’ health.
Huskies are born to run, and there is nothing they like better than pulling a sled with their friends. The dogs are picked up one by one from the kennels and harnessed to their own place in front of the sled. The working day consists of safaris of different lengths, and a day’s travel can be total 30–60 km. We keep track that there are enough rest days even during the busy winter season. Our dogs are primarily workmates, living creatures that we value, and whose well-being is our number one priority.
We aim to support mental well-being by giving the dogs plenty of exercise and activities even in quieter times, as well as having social relationships with both people and other dogs. Safe and stress-free herd and a clean-living environment also support the well-being of the dogs. The dogs receive regular vaccinations and health checks to monitor their condition. We have a retirement plan for our dogs so that they can enjoy comfortable and happy retirement days.

Taking Action on Climate
Since 2023, we have been measuring our carbon footprint, looking at both our direct emissions and some of those further down the supply chain. While our numbers aren’t fully complete yet, it’s an important first step we’re proud to have taken.
Most of our emissions come from vehicle fuel, staff commuting, and dog food. On the energy side, we’ve already made good progress: the electricity we buy is 100% renewable, we generate extra power with our own solar panels, our buildings are heated using heat from the ground, and dog food is kept cool in an energy-efficient container.
Our next step is to sharpen those calculations and set clear targets for cutting emissions further. ⚡️
Offsetting what we can’t yet eliminate
Even with all these efforts, running a business like ours still produces some emissions that are hard to avoid entirely. For everything that remains, we’ve partnered with Carboreal, a Finnish company that helps businesses make up for their emissions by growing new forests.
Together with Carboreal, we are helping to plant a new forest in Tervola – a short distance south of Rovaniemi, practically on our doorstep. The land was previously used for farming and is now being transformed into a rich, thriving forest full of different plants and wildlife. The forest will be carefully looked after and checked on regularly, with a care plan in place for at least 70 years.
Carboreal keeps up with the latest research to make sure their forests are managed in the best possible way – both for absorbing CO₂ and for supporting local nature and communities.
Through this project, nearly 500 tonnes of CO₂ will be pulled out of the atmosphere over time, helping to clean the air, support Finnish nature, and leave a lasting positive impact on our climate.
Certified Love for Lapland’s Nature
We consider the diversity of nature and the environment in all our activities and strive to protect it as best we can. We protect the environment from wear and tear by using the same existing routes for as long as possible, and during husky hikes we follow already established trails, always collecting any litter with us. We use products with environmental or Nordic Swan labels and we use durable products instead of disposable ones. We strive to purchase long-lasting, high-quality items to avoid waste and offer recycling possibilities both customers and staff.
We are committed to preventing and reducing the environmental impact of our operations and we work actively to promote sustainable development by constantly developing our operations and setting new goals every year.
We’ve earned many certifications during the last years, check them below!

Supporting The Local and The Domestic
We strive to maintain local culture and prefer local crafts, raw materials, and local food in our selections. In our operations, we primarily use local services, such as veterinary services, construction projects, and in work clothing. Our employees and trainees are mainly local, and we have been awarded the Key Flag symbol in the spring of 2023. The Key Flag symbol in connection with the service indicates that the service employs people in Finland and that our company is domestically owned.
We employ several year-round workers, as well as a few seasonal workers. This is how we ensure that the dogs always have familiar people around who know each dog and know how to read their gestures and expressions. We collaborate with local educational institutions and social work by offering internships and workplace visits to students, and we are happy to take part in projects and research conducted by universities. Employee well-being and equality are important to us, and we promote them through recreational activities, continuous development of working conditions, flexible practices, and fair treatment of all staff.
